Lower Dens – Propagation

Director Sebastian Mlynarski hooked up with Lower Dens to put together their newest video for the track “Propagation”. The visual stars the band as they traverse through the forest at night while wearing all-white jumpsuits. Here’s what Mlynarski had to say about the visual:

“I wrote the treatment for “Propagation” in about 10 minutes. I loved the song so much that I almost immediately knew what I wanted to do. I decided to focus on how the song made me feel instead of what it meant and so I decided to write a nonlinear narrative story involving primitive beings that propagate with light. Jana [Hunter] and Geoff [Graham] were on board right away and Geoff and I both referenced Butoh, a modern Japanese performance/dance, which often includes grotesque gesturing and crude white face make up. I worked closely on the art direction with Jenni Hensler who created the wardrobe and Maya Hardinge who transformed the band’s faces. Needless to say, it was a tripped out experience! Super bananas! Especially hanging out in the forest, breaking for “lunch” at 2 a.m. and having spaghetti with these lit up beings with white faces.”
